Privacy Policy

Awda helps you return to your prayer. This policy explains what the app collects, what never leaves your device, who else receives data, and how to delete everything.

Awda is available on iOS and Android. The two apps are built differently, so where they differ, the platform is called out explicitly.

The short version

• You can use Awda without an account. Signing in is optional and can be skipped.
• Your precise location never leaves your device. Prayer times are calculated on the device itself.
• Awda's app blocking never reads your screen, messages or keystrokes.
• We don't sell your personal information, and we don't buy it.
• The Android app shows ads and uses analytics. The iOS app does not.

Information you give us

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address and store them so your prayer history follows you between devices. Signing in is optional — you can tap “Skip for now” and use Awda without an account.

If you have an account, we also store on our servers:

• Your prayer log, streaks and missed-prayer (Qada) counts
• Your app settings and prayer-time adjustments
• Your city — the town or city name you select or that we resolve from your location, never your precise coordinates
• Any feedback you send us from inside the app

These are held in our database (Supabase) and are tied to your account. Without an account, this information stays on your device only.

Location

Awda can use your location to calculate accurate prayer times. That calculation happens entirely on your device, and your precise coordinates are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. If you have an account, only the resulting city name is saved, so your prayer times are right when you sign in elsewhere. You can set your city manually instead of granting location access at all.

App blocking

On Android, pausing your chosen apps during a prayer window uses Android's AccessibilityService API. With your permission, Awda is notified when an app is brought to the foreground and checks whether it is one you chose to block. Awda reads only the package name of that app. It does not read the content of your screen, your messages, your keystrokes, your passwords or any other personal data. Nothing from the AccessibilityService is collected, stored off your device, shared or sold — it is used solely, and in the moment, to decide whether to show the Awda shield. The feature is optional and you can turn it off at any time in Android Settings → Accessibility.

On iOS, the same feature uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls). Your app selections are handled privately by iOS and are represented to the app as opaque tokens, so we never see which specific apps you use.

On both platforms, the list of apps you choose to pause stays on your device.

The Fajr wake-up scan

The Fajr alarm offers an optional gate that asks you to photograph an object to prove you are awake. If you use it, that single photo is sent to our AI provider (OpenRouter, which routes it to Google Gemini) purely to answer whether the requested object is visible. The photo is not stored by us, is not attached to your account, and is not used to train any model. If you never use the wake-scan gate, no photo is ever captured or sent. Camera access is optional and the alarm works without it.

Analytics, crash reporting and session replay (Android)

The Android app uses PostHog for product analytics and Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Remote Config for crash reports, stability and feature configuration. These record which screens you open, which features you use, and technical details about your device and any crashes.

PostHog session replay is enabled, which records a reconstruction of your screen as you move through the app so we can see where people get stuck. Text you type in the app is visible in these recordings. Recordings are used only to diagnose problems and improve the app, are accessible only to our team, and are retained by PostHog on our behalf. Contact us at the address below if you would prefer your sessions not be recorded.

The iOS app does not include analytics, crash reporting or session replay.

Advertising (Android)

The Android app shows ads through Google AdMob and measures campaign performance with the Meta (Facebook) SDK. These use your device's advertising ID. Where required, you will be shown a consent prompt (Google's User Messaging Platform) before personalised ads are served, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your Android settings.

The iOS app does not show ads.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Google Play or the App Store — we never receive or store your payment details. We use RevenueCat and Superwall to manage subscription status and decide which offer to show you. They receive a pseudonymous identifier and your purchase status, not your payment information.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the app work, each of which is limited to that purpose: Supabase (database and sign-in), Google Play and Apple (payments), RevenueCat and Superwall (subscriptions), PostHog (analytics and session replay, Android), Google Firebase (crash reporting and configuration, Android), Google AdMob and Meta (advertising, Android), and OpenRouter with Google Gemini (the optional Fajr wake scan). We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, Awda uses notifications to alert you to prayer times and to nudge you about your streak. You can turn these off at any time in your device settings.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete it at any time:

• In the app — Settings → Delete data, where you can clear your stored data or delete your account entirely.
• On the web — use our account deletion page, which works even if you have already uninstalled the app.

Deletion removes your profile, prayer logs, settings, offsets and feedback, and invalidates your sessions. Afterwards we retain only what the law requires us to keep, such as transaction records for tax purposes.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Email us at the address below and we will help. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Awda is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the date at the top of this page.
